Craughwell athlete Maeve Curley delivered a performance of a lifetime to come home 10th from 24 finishers in the 21st European Junior Championships.

The IAU Trail World Championships will take place in Connemara tomorrow Saturday July 9. The event will be operated in the area of Connemara National Park and its environs, starting at the world famous Kylemore Abbey and finishing in the nearby village of Letterfrack.

Galway athletes put in another strong performance at the Connacht Championships in Sligo.

There were some good performances by a number of Kilkenny teams at the Leinster Team championships in Crettyard on Saturday last.

Athletes from local schools had considerable success at the Leinster Schools track and field finals in Santry last week.

While Hugh Armstrong was busy winning a silver medal in the All-Ireland youths’ mountain running championships in scenic Glendalough, the senior athletes of Ballina AC were also busy at a variety of races around the country. The evergreen Michael Courell made his annual trip to Kilnaboy, Co Clare for a tough 10 mile road race where he finished the race in 1:17:57. Running under eight minute mile pace all the way is no mean achievement for the course. Both Bernard Barrett and William Heverin made the trip to Dublin for the Great Ireland Run in the Phoenix Park. Both should be very happy with their times of 38:56 and 44:46 respectively. Both will use these times to set lower time targets for the remainder of the season.
